For the New Year 2013 I wish all of youa good and healthy time.
The New Year's Eve and the first day in the New Year are Celebrated around the world .
But the Catholics begin this year with the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God .
In our church, as we know, the new year begins not in January,
it starts right after the church calendar on 1 Sunday of Advent.
Nevertheless, Christianity also celebrates 1st January of each year, however, as this Marian feast - Mary as Mother of God. And we celebrate this on the 8 Day after the birth of Christ. So this day is a very special day for us.

“Yes, This Gospel is mine: that fits perfectly well today.. Because I 'm sitting not at the first raw in the church, but very very far far way...” 
We can say, the Readings of this sunday express the same message in two different ways.
ഇന്നത്തെ സുവിശേഷം ഒരു വലിയ ചോദ്യചിഹ്നമായിരിക്കും നമ്മില് പലര്ക്കും.
Today we come across with a big problem.
In the Collect today we hear three attributes of the Mother of God.
സുരക്ഷിതത്വം എന്നത് മനുഷ്യന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാന ആവശ്യങ്ങളില് ഒന്നാണ്.
„ഹേ മനുഷ്യാ, എന്നെ നിങ്ങളുടെ ന്യായാധിപനോ സ്വത്തുഭാഗിക്കുന്നവനോ ആയിആര് നിയമിച്ചു" എന്ന സുവിശേഷത്തിലെ ചോദ്യം നമ്മെ ചിന്തിപ്പിക്കും.
What we pray? Why we pray? Will every prayers be heard? These questions are actual and even in our modern world. At the same time we pray for many reasons. Some pray for their own welfare and good secure life. Some pray for health and shelter. Some for passing out an exam. There are some others pray for others... We 
In today's readings we hear about two types of hosts.
ഒരു കഥയുണ്ട്-
ഒരിക്കല് മനുഷ്യന് തന്നിലുള്ള വിശ്വാസം പരീക്ഷിക്കാനായി ദൈവം മാലാഖമാര്ക്ക് ചുമതല നല്കി.
അങ്ങനെ മുഖ്യദൂതന്മാരുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തില്
സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് മാലാഖാമാരുടെ മഹാസമ്മേളനം നടന്നു.
അതില് ധാരാളം ആശയങ്ങള് ഉയര്ന്നുവന്നു.
ചിലര് പറഞ്ഞു, "നമുക്ക് മനുഷ്യനെ സമ്പത്ത് കൊണ്ട് മൂടാം.
അപ്പോള് അവന് ദൈവത്തെ മറക്കും.”
ചിലര് പറഞ്ഞു: "നമുക്ക് അവനെ പുരോഗമന ചിന്ത നല്കി, പുരോഗതിയിലേയ്ക്ക് നയിക്കുകയാണെന്ന തോന്നല് ഉളവാക്കാം.
അപ്പോള് അവന് ജീവിതമൂല്യങ്ങളും ഒപ്പം ദൈവത്തെയും മറന്നോളും.”
വേറെ ചിലര് പറഞ്ഞു. "അവനു അധികാരവും അഹങ്കാരവും നല്കാം.
The Readings of this Sunday have a Common theme.
It is about the happiness and Joy.
“Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad because of her, all you who love her;“
So starts Jesaja's words in the first reading.
It also deals with the consolation and comfort of God that overflow us as a mother's love and care.
The reading from the Galatians by St Paul is giving the same message.
He asserts the sign of Jesus in him even in his Cross and sufferings.
നെല്സന് മണ്ടേല എന്ന സമരനായകന്റെ ജീവന് ഗുരുതരനിലയില് ആണെന്ന് വാര്ത്തകള് വന്നുതുടങ്ങിയിട്ട് ദിവസങ്ങള് കഴിയുന്നു. (അതിനിടയില് ചില പുത്തന് സോഷ്യല് മീഡിയ റിപ്പോര്ട്ടര്മാര് അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു "ആദരാഞ്ജലികള്" അര്പ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.)
അദ്ദേഹം പൊടുന്നനെ ഒരു നേതാവായതല്ല.
മറിച്ചു ജീവിതത്തില് കൃത്യമായ ഒരു ലക്ഷ്യം വച്ചു കോളനി ഭരണത്തിനെതിരെ ജീവിതം ഉഴിഞ്ഞുവെച്ചു ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്കന് കരുത്തവര്ഗ്ഗക്കാര്ക്ക് സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം സാക്ഷാത്കരിക്കാന് അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു കഴിഞ്ഞത് അതിന്റെ പരിനിതഫലങ്ങള് അനുഭവിക്കാന് തയ്യാറായതുകൊണ്ടാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ട് ലോകം അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു "കറുത്ത ഗാന്ധി" എന്ന് പേരും നല്കി. ദ. ആഫ്രിക്കയിലെ ജനങ്ങള്ക്ക് അദ്ദേഹം "പിതാവാണ്".
“Keep an Order and the Order will Keep you“ എന്ന് ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദിവംഗതനായ കൊച്ചീമെത്രാന് ജൊസഫ് കുരീത്തറ പിതാവ് പറയുമായിരുന്നു.
അതെ, ലക്ഷ്യം ഒരുവനെ ജീവിതത്തില് അടുക്കും ചിട്ടയും നല്കുന്നു. അതു സമര്ഥിക്കാന് നമുക്ക് ഉദാഹരണങ്ങള് ഒന്നും ആവശ്യമില്ലല്ലോ.
There once was a couple who had a 12 year old son and a donkey.
They decided to travel and to see the world.
So they started their trip together with their ass.
As they reached in the first village, they heard the people talking:
“Look at the kid how bad he is brought up...
he's sitting on the donkey and his poor parents have to walk.”
So the woman said to her husband:
“We will not let people talk bad about our son.”
The man took the boy from the donkey, sat on it himself.
Luke's 7th Chapter is a revolutionary act in the life of Jesus.
His healing of two non Jews were the gospel passages of the last two Sundays.
Now we hear in this Sunday’s passage some further steps.
His going to the house of a Pharisee who is called Simon itself is some thing “mysterious”. We know the relation between Jesus and the Pharisees were not that smooth and friendly. He always criticised their approaches sharp.
But his visit to the Pharisee is a sign of his openness to the person,
even if he is against their practices…
“Do what they tell but don’t imitate them” (Mt 23, 1-3).
This was the Policy of Jesus regarding Scribes and Pharisees.
Jesus accepts the person of Simon, even though he disagreed with the Pharisees.
“Ad majorem Dei gloriam„ “For the greater Glory of God”. This is a small Phrase by St Ignatius Loyola, the motto of the Society of Jesus. This simple sentence formed not only the life of St Ignatius and his fellow priests, but many in their lives. Because this attribute to the positive philosophy of our God centred life. God is glorified not only in and through our many Liturgical Ceremonies and praises. But He is glorified in our lives, our words and actions. Our whole life is a praising prayer to God.
The two instances we hear in the first and third readings (Gospel) are almost same in the content. If, in the first reading, we hear the Prophet Elijah gives life to a child, the Gospel is about Jesus raising a young man in Nain.
Both of these instances highlight a great truth: 
What is the greatness in the creation of Human beings? 
The feast of this day marks one of the most important celebrations of the Catholic Church. It is the celebration of the Blessed Sacrament and the real presence of Jesus.
The second reading from first Corinthians 11, 23- 26 is the so called oldest text on the institution of the Holy Eucharist. It describes the celebration of the “first Eucharist” by Jesus. St Paul was not there as a disciple but he might have heard about it from others.
But we hear from St Paul some actions of Jesus at the Eucharistic Table:
He took bread, he gave thanks, broke it and distributed the bread as his own Body - a series of simple but great and meaningful actions, which we follow even after 2000 years. This central action of the Eucharist has not changed, because Jesus told us “to do this in remembrance of me.”
Many of us know the following story:
St. Augustine, the great father of the church and theologian wanted to compose a book on the Trinity, but that did not make progress.
It is said that once he walked by the sea at that time and watched a little boy there. The child had dug a hole in the sand and ran with a shell in his hand again and again to the water, scooped his shell, ran back and poured the water into the hole. He repeated this again and again.
After some time, St Augustine asked him, "What are you doing?"
And the child replied, "I draw the sea into this hole!"
Augustine shook his head and said:
"You know, that's quite impossible. You can’t fill the big, wide sea in this hole!"
"But you think you can," replied the child, looking at the great scholar, "you think you can capture the great mystery of the Trinity with your intelligence?"
This incident gave Augustine the important realization:
God is so great and bigger than we can imagine ourselves.
There was another saint named Patrick.
During his missionary works in Ireland, he noticed that the faithful had the greatest difficulty in understanding the mystery of 
On the day of Pentecost, we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit.
The spirit of God should unite and strengthen us more in our faith.
But is Pentecost really a celebration of unity or division?
Can the Spirit of God act differently? Can God bring division?
The Apostles of Jesus spoke no common language but different languages... Can it still be a celebration of unity?
Such questions may disturb us today because of the readings.
Certain questions come together with the feast of the Ascension of our Lord:
Where is heaven? Is it up in the clouds?
Is that above the earth’s atmosphere?
Actually, there are no concrete answers regarding it.
But most theologians believe that it is not a place, as some imagine.
It is rather a condition.
It is also interesting that one of the handbooks of dogmatic theology uses the term “exaltation” of Jesus rather than "Ascension".
I think it makes sense and gives deeper meaning to the feast.
There are some people with great Photographic Memory. They can grasp things and recall things with in a least time. But such people are not in majority. The majority is like me and many of you:
we need repetition to understand some thing.
It is not only regarding our study matters, but even for daily handlings.
Jesus Christ is a good example of repeated teaching. Gospels prove it.
എന്റെ നാട്ടിലെ ഇടവകപ്പള്ളിയിലെ സങ്കീര്ത്തിമുറിയില് ഒരു ചെറിയ പ്രാര്ത്ഥനാ വാചകമുണ്ട്. അത് ഇപ്രകാരം മലയാളവത്കരിക്കാം...
„ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പുരോഹിതാ,
നീ അര്പ്പിക്കാന് പോകുന്ന ഈ ബലി,
നിന്റെ ആദ്യത്തെയും,
അവസാനത്തെയും,
ഒരേയൊരു ബലിയായി അര്പ്പിക്കുക.“
അവിടെ ദിവ്യബലിക്കായി ഒരുങ്ങുന്ന എതൊരു പുരോഹിതനും അത് ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുകയും
ഒരു നിമിഷമെങ്കിലും താന് അര്പ്പിക്കുന്ന ബലിയുടെ മഹത്വത്തെക്കുറിച്ച്
ധ്യാനിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. 
Good friends and real lovers can realize certain life problems each other.
For that one should not meet in person. It is even transferred through a telephone call. Hope some of us had these kinds of experiences in our life.
Because voice is not some lifeless and neutral mixture of Sounds, words, and grammar. In fact our talks reveal our thoughts and emotions, personalities and our nature itself. In that context, to listen some one means, we understand some one. Listening with out understanding will have no impact at all.
Voice is a medium to share our thoughts, even our emotions.
One can influence other with the proper use of that special gift.
Our special fancy and inclination to certain actors or singers and such artists are thus justified.
When we go through the media reports of these days, the world is bit anxious about a particular news. It is about the present tensions from the North Korea and its war preparations. I am not going through the details of the politics here. But the crazy need for power of some leaders becomes a thought for the Sunday.
Through the present issues, the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un shows his desire for power and a need to show it to the world- may be he needs it for himself. 
“I believe in God, but don’t have interest in the Church.” We might have heard these types of opinions in plenty.
But the narration on St Thomas and his doubt on this Sunday-Gospel tell us the importance of faith and community life.
The disciples of Jesus were not having such a great faith in the Risen Lord, after the resurrection. We can read that in all the 4 Gospels.
In Matthew 28, 17 it is written: “When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted“
“Jesus is risen, he is truly risen.”
I wish you all of you the blessings of the Easter.
Whey speaking with young generation we will have to face certain questions:
such as “Was the incarnation and passion of Jesus necessary?”
“In Genesis, we read God creates everything with his Word. If the word of God was so powerful, then why couldn’t God save man with his word?”
We have to defend God in those questions:
Yes God is all powerful. He can do everything with his will. Still God needs some one to assist him in the salvation works.
God could save Israelites from the slavery of Egypt. But He uses Moses and Aron. The whole salvation history is a cooperation of God and Men & women.
The reason is God likes to communicate with his people.
യേശുവിന്റെ പീഡാനുഭവ വായനകളിലൂടെ കടന്നുപോകുമ്പോള് ചില മനുഷ്യരെ പ്രത്യേകമായി നാം ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നു. അവരെ നാല് ഗണത്തില്പെടുത്തി ഒരു ചെറിയ ധ്യാനം ആകട്ടെ ഈ ദു:ഖവെള്ളിയില്...
1. ശിഷ്യന്മാരില് ചിലരെയാണ് ഇവിടെ നാം ധ്യാനവിഷയമാക്കുന്നത്. വളരെ പ്രത്യേകമായി പത്രോസിനെയും യോഹന്നാനെയും യൂദാസിനെയും നാം ഇവിടെ കാണുന്നു. പത്രോസിനും യോഹന്നാനും യേശുവിനെ അനുഗമിക്കണമെന്നു ആഗ്രഹമുണ്ടെങ്കിലും അവരിലെ ഭയം അതിനായി അവരെ അനുവദിക്കുന്നില്ല.
എത്രയോ മനുഷ്യര് വിശ്വാസികളാണെന്ന് അവകാശപ്പെടുന്നു... മതപരമായ ചടങ്ങുകള് നിര്വ്വഹിക്കുന്നു... കാരുണ്യപ്രവര്ത്തികള് ചെയ്യുന്നു...
എങ്കിലും ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ അനുഗമിക്കാന് എത്രത്തോളം ബലം നമുക്ക് ഉണ്ട്?
ഒരുമിച്ച് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുന്നത് സന്തോഷകരമാണ്.
അത് തന്റെ സ്നേഹിതര്ക്ക് ഒപ്പമായാല് സന്തോഷം ഇരട്ടിയോളം...
യേശു തന്റെ ശിഷ്യരുമൊത്ത് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുന്ന രംഗമാണ് ഇന്ന് നാം സുവിശേഷത്തില് ശ്രവിക്കുന്നത്. കഴിഞ്ഞ മൂന്നു ആണ്ടുകളായി ഈ ശിഷ്യരൊത്താണ് യേശുവിന്റെ സഹവാസം.
ഇപ്പോള് അവരെ പിരിയേണ്ടി വരുന്ന ദുഃഖം ആരോടും പറയാനാകാത്ത അവസ്ഥയിലാകണം യേശുനാഥന്...
തന്റെ വാക്ക് ശ്രവിച്ചു സകലതും വെടിഞ്ഞു,
തന്നെ പിന്തുടരുന്നവരാണവര്.
അവരെ ഇങ്ങനെയൊരു അസന്നിഗ്ദാവസ്ഥയില്
ഒറ്റയ്ക്കാക്കി പോകുന്നത് അതിഭയങ്കരവും...
ഇനി സത്യം പറഞ്ഞാല് ഒരുപക്ഷേ അവര് ഇടറിപ്പോയേയ്ക്കാം...
ഏതായായാലും തന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം നിറവേറ്റാന് യേശു മനസ്സാണ്...അത് തന്റെ പ്രിയശിഷ്യരെ വേദനിപ്പിക്കാതെ ആകാന് അവിടുന്ന് കരുതുന്നു.
ഓശാന – അത് സന്തോഷത്തിന്റെയും ആഘോഷത്തിന്റെയും ദിനമാണ്.
അതിനു ശേഷം എല്ലാം മാറിമറിയുന്ന കാഴ്ചകള് നാംകാണുന്ന വൈരുദ്ധ്യങ്ങളുടെ ദിനവും...
തിരസ്കരണത്തിന്റെയും ഏകാന്തതയുടെയും, ഒറ്റപ്പെടുത്തലിന്റെയും ഒറ്റിക്കൊടുക്കപ്പെടലിന്റെയും ആരംഭം ഇവിടെ തന്നെ.
ഇവയെല്ലാം യേശുവിന്റെ ജീവിതത്തില് പലപ്പോഴായി നാം കാണുന്നു എങ്കിലും ഈ വിശുദ്ധവാരത്തില് അതിന്റെ പൂര്ത്തിയിലെത്തുന്നു.
ജീവിതത്തിലെ വൈരുദ്ധ്യങ്ങളുടെ സമ്മേളനമാണ് ഇവിടെ കാണാന് കഴിയുക.
തന്നെ അനുഗമിക്കുന്നവരുള്പ്പെടുന്ന സകല മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും തന്റെ ഈ വേദനയില് കാര്യമായ ഒന്നും ചെയ്യാനാകില്ല എന്ന സത്യം യേശു അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.
അതിനാല് തന്നെ അവരുടെ ബലഹീനതയില് അവരെ അവന് കുറ്റംപറഞ്ഞില്ല.
സമചിത്തതയോടെ തന്റെ കുരിശെടുക്കുക മാത്രമാണ് അവന് ചെയ്തത്.
അതുവഴി നമുക്കൊരു മാര്ഗ്ഗവും യേശു കാണിച്ചുതന്നു...
ജീവിതത്തിലെ വ്യഥകള് എപ്രകാരം നന്മകള് ആക്കി മാറ്റാന് നാമുക്കാകും എന്ന്. അതിന് യേശുവിന്റെ ഒരേയൊരു ബലം തന്റെ പിതാവിലുള്ള അചഞ്ചലമായ വിശ്വാസം മാത്രമായിരുന്നു.
