“Jesus is risen, he is truly risen.” I wish you all of you the blessings of the Easter. Whey speaking with young generation we will have to face certain questions: such as “Was the incarnation and passion of Jesus necessary?” “In Genesis, we read God creates everything with his Word. If the word of God was so powerful, then why couldn’t God save man with his word?” We have to defend God in those questions: Yes God is all powerful. He can do everything with his will. Still God needs some one to assist him in the salvation works. God could save Israelites from the slavery of Egypt. But He uses Moses and Aron. The whole salvation history is a cooperation of God and Men & women. The reason is God likes to communicate with his people. read more...

ഈസ്റ്റര്‍ - 2013 – C

“കര്‍ത്താവ് ഉയിര്‍ത്തെഴുന്നേറ്റു, അതെ അവിടുന്ന് സത്യമായും ഉയിര്‍ത്തെഴുന്നേറ്റു... “എല്ലാവര്‍ക്കും ഇന്നത്തെ ഉയിര്‍പ്പ്തിരുനാളിന്‍റെ ആശംസകളും അനുഗ്രഹങ്ങളും ആദ്യമേതന്നെ നേരുന്നു... യുവാക്കളെ എനിക്ക് വളരെ ഇഷ്ടമാണ്. കാരണം അവര്‍ക്ക് പലപ്പോഴും ചോദ്യങ്ങളും സംശയങ്ങളും ഉണ്ട്. അത് വളര്‍ച്ചയുടെ അടയാളവുമാണ്. കുറെ നാളുകള്‍ക്കു മുന്‍പ്‌ ഒരു യുവാവ് എന്നോട് ചോദിച്ചു, ക്രിസ്തു എന്തിനാണ്‌ മനുഷ്യാവതാരം ചെയ്തത്, പീഡകള്‍ സഹിച്ച് മരിച്ചത്? മനുഷ്യനെ രക്ഷിക്കാനായി ദൈവത്തിനു അതിന്‍റെ ആവശ്യം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ലല്ലോ? അതിന് അയാള്‍ വി. ഗ്രന്ഥത്തിലെ ചിലഭാഗങ്ങള്‍ സൂചിപ്പിച്ചു. ദൈവത്തിനു ലോകസൃഷ്ടി നടത്താന്‍ വാക്കുകള്‍മാത്രം മതിയായിരുന്നല്ലോ? അപ്പോള്‍ മനുഷ്യനെ പാപത്തില്‍നിന്നും രക്ഷിക്കാനും ആ വാക്കുകള്‍ക്ക് ശക്തിയില്ലായിരുന്നോ? അപ്പോള്‍ ആ ചെറുപ്പക്കാരനോട്‌ ഞാന്‍ ഒരു മറുചോദ്യം ചോദിച്ചു. read more...

യേശുവിന്റെ പീഡാനുഭവ വായനകളിലൂടെ കടന്നുപോകുമ്പോള്‍ ചില മനുഷ്യരെ പ്രത്യേകമായി നാം ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നു. അവരെ നാല് ഗണത്തില്‍പെടുത്തി ഒരു ചെറിയ ധ്യാനം ആകട്ടെ ഈ ദു:ഖവെള്ളിയില്‍... 1. ശിഷ്യന്മാരില്‍ ചിലരെയാണ് ഇവിടെ നാം ധ്യാനവിഷയമാക്കുന്നത്. വളരെ പ്രത്യേകമായി പത്രോസിനെയും യോഹന്നാനെയും യൂദാസിനെയും നാം ഇവിടെ കാണുന്നു. പത്രോസിനും യോഹന്നാനും യേശുവിനെ അനുഗമിക്കണമെന്നു ആഗ്രഹമുണ്ടെങ്കിലും അവരിലെ ഭയം അതിനായി അവരെ അനുവദിക്കുന്നില്ല. എത്രയോ മനുഷ്യര്‍ വിശ്വാസികളാണെന്ന് അവകാശപ്പെടുന്നു... മതപരമായ ചടങ്ങുകള്‍ നിര്‍വ്വഹിക്കുന്നു... കാരുണ്യപ്രവര്‍ത്തികള്‍ ചെയ്യുന്നു... എങ്കിലും ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ അനുഗമിക്കാന്‍ എത്രത്തോളം ബലം നമുക്ക് ഉണ്ട്? read more...

പെസഹാവ്യാഴം – C – 2013

ഒരുമിച്ച് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുന്നത്‌ സന്തോഷകരമാണ്. അത് തന്‍റെ സ്നേഹിതര്‍ക്ക് ഒപ്പമായാല്‍ സന്തോഷം ഇരട്ടിയോളം... യേശു തന്‍റെ ശിഷ്യരുമൊത്ത് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുന്ന രംഗമാണ് ഇന്ന്‍ നാം സുവിശേഷത്തില്‍ ശ്രവിക്കുന്നത്. കഴിഞ്ഞ മൂന്നു ആണ്ടുകളായി ഈ ശിഷ്യരൊത്താണ് യേശുവിന്‍റെ സഹവാസം. ഇപ്പോള്‍ അവരെ പിരിയേണ്ടി വരുന്ന ദുഃഖം ആരോടും പറയാനാകാത്ത അവസ്ഥയിലാകണം യേശുനാഥന്‍... തന്‍റെ വാക്ക് ശ്രവിച്ചു സകലതും വെടിഞ്ഞു, തന്നെ പിന്തുടരുന്നവരാണവര്‍. അവരെ ഇങ്ങനെയൊരു അസന്നിഗ്ദാവസ്ഥയില്‍ ഒറ്റയ്ക്കാക്കി പോകുന്നത് അതിഭയങ്കരവും... ഇനി സത്യം പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ ഒരുപക്ഷേ അവര്‍ ഇടറിപ്പോയേയ്ക്കാം... ഏതായായാലും തന്‍റെ പിതാവിന്‍റെ ഇഷ്ടം നിറവേറ്റാന്‍ യേശു മനസ്സാണ്...അത് തന്‍റെ പ്രിയശിഷ്യരെ വേദനിപ്പിക്കാതെ ആകാന്‍ അവിടുന്ന്‍ കരുതുന്നു. read more...

Sermon thoughts – Maundy Thursday – C

To dine together is some thing joyful. The occasion will be more joyful when the table is surrounded by good friends. But when it is a time of departure and if some one is aware of that this will be his last meal, such one cannot be a celebration for him. Jesus is at the table –his beloved friends are with him. They were his “one and only” friends because they were together for the last 3 years. He shared with them his wisdom, his God experience. Before meeting Jesus, these people were simple hand workers and were living their “normal lives”. Jesus moved them to a total rejection of their old lives and occupations. read more...

ഓശാന ഞായര്‍ 2013

ഓശാന – അത് സന്തോഷത്തിന്റെയും ആഘോഷത്തിന്‍റെയും ദിനമാണ്. അതിനു ശേഷം എല്ലാം മാറിമറിയുന്ന കാഴ്ചകള്‍ നാംകാണുന്ന വൈരുദ്ധ്യങ്ങളുടെ ദിനവും... തിരസ്കരണത്തിന്‍റെയും ഏകാന്തതയുടെയും, ഒറ്റപ്പെടുത്തലിന്‍റെയും ഒറ്റിക്കൊടുക്കപ്പെടലിന്‍റെയും ആരംഭം ഇവിടെ തന്നെ. ഇവയെല്ലാം യേശുവിന്റെ ജീവിതത്തില്‍ പലപ്പോഴായി നാം കാണുന്നു എങ്കിലും ഈ വിശുദ്ധവാരത്തില്‍ അതിന്‍റെ പൂര്‍ത്തിയിലെത്തുന്നു. ജീവിതത്തിലെ വൈരുദ്ധ്യങ്ങളുടെ സമ്മേളനമാണ് ഇവിടെ കാണാന്‍ കഴിയുക. തന്നെ അനുഗമിക്കുന്നവരുള്‍പ്പെടുന്ന സകല മനുഷ്യര്‍ക്കും തന്‍റെ ഈ വേദനയില്‍ കാര്യമായ ഒന്നും ചെയ്യാനാകില്ല എന്ന സത്യം യേശു അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. അതിനാല്‍ തന്നെ അവരുടെ ബലഹീനതയില്‍ അവരെ അവന്‍ കുറ്റംപറഞ്ഞില്ല. സമചിത്തതയോടെ തന്‍റെ കുരിശെടുക്കുക മാത്രമാണ് അവന്‍ ചെയ്തത്. അതുവഴി നമുക്കൊരു മാര്‍ഗ്ഗവും യേശു കാണിച്ചുതന്നു... ജീവിതത്തിലെ വ്യഥകള്‍ എപ്രകാരം നന്മകള്‍ ആക്കി മാറ്റാന്‍ നാമുക്കാകും എന്ന്. അതിന് യേശുവിന്റെ ഒരേയൊരു ബലം തന്‍റെ പിതാവിലുള്ള അചഞ്ചലമായ വിശ്വാസം മാത്രമായിരുന്നു. read more...

Hosanna and Kingship - Joy and celebration; This turns in to rejection and loneliness: accusation and crucifixion. Yes, that is what we see in the life of Jesus. It was a contrast between the moments of acceptance and rejection. The holy week is a concentrated time of these experiences. But let us look at Jesus. He goes very calm and serene- as some one, who already knew about this end. Because Jesus knew the nature of humans. He knew they will rejoice with the happy and will leave the week and humbled alone to suffer. read more...

തപസ്സുകാലം 5-)൦ ഞായര്‍ - C – “Judica me, Deus” Jn 8, 1-11; Is 43, 16-21; Phil 3, 8-14

വ്യഭിചാര വൃത്തിയില്‍ പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ട സ്ത്രീയെ, യേശുവിന്റെ മുന്‍പില്‍ വിചാരണയ്ക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതാണല്ലോ ഇന്നത്തെ സുവിശേഷം. അല്‍പം വിചിത്രമാണ് ഈ സംഭവം. കാരണം സ്ത്രീ മാത്രമാണ് ഇവിടെ വിചാരണനേരിടുന്നത്. പക്ഷെ സ്ത്രീയ്ക്ക് മാത്രമായി വ്യഭിചാരം ചെയ്യാനാകുന്നത് എങ്ങനെ¬? അക്കാലത്തെ സാമൂഹിക അസമത്വത്തിലെയ്ക്ക് ഈ സംഭവം വിരല്‍ ചൂണ്ടുന്നു... അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ ഈ അന്യായ വിധിയില്‍ പങ്കുചേരാന്‍ യേശുവിനു താല്പര്യം ഇല്ല. അത് തിരുത്തുന്ന യേശുവിനെയും നാം ഇവിടെ കാണുന്നു. സാധാരണയായി എല്ലാവരെയും ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചു ശ്രവിക്കുന്ന പ്രകൃതമായിരുന്നു യേശുവിന്റെത്‌. മനുഷ്യരെ അവന്‍ ഒരിക്കലും അവഗണിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല. പക്ഷെ ഈ വിധി അന്യായമാണെന്ന് യേശു മനസ്സിലാക്കി... അതുകൊണ്ട്, തലയുയര്‍ത്തി, അവനു ചുറ്റും കൂടിയ ജനക്കൂട്ടത്തെ നോക്കാന്‍പോലും അവനു മനസ്സുവന്നില്ല. അവരുടെ മനസ്സിന്റെ വൈകൃതം മനസ്സിലാക്കിയിട്ടാവണം... അവരുടെ വിധി, പക്ഷപാതപരമായതും അതിലുപരി യേശുവിന്റെ ദര്‍ശനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് കടകവിരുദ്ധവുമാണ്. ജീവന്‍ നല്‍കാന്‍ വന്നവനാണ് ക്രിസ്തു. അത് അന്യായമായി ഇല്ലാതാക്കാന്‍ അവനു സാധ്യമല്ല. read more...

Sermon thoughts – 5th Sunday in the Lent – C – “Judica me, Deus” Jn 8, 1-11; Is 43, 16-21; Phil 3, 8-14

The Gospel narrates the story of the woman who was caught in adultery. It is bit strange, because only the woman alone was caught. Can she alone commit adultery and sin? There was no justice in that condemnation. Jesus knew that. Normally Jesus is a good and active listener. He never neglected some one. But here he is not even raising his heads to address the crowd, the so called “self-declared-saints” – they were hypocrites for Jesus. Jesus knows that this will be a big injustice and mistake if he supports such people. His body language shows that, he was not interested in their judgements. They are partial and more than that they want to kill the condemned. But Jesus came to give life and to save. How can he then be a part of such a judgement? Jesus’ action and judgement are perfectly all right and logical. more...

തപസ്സുകാലം – 4ആം ഞായര്‍ - C– Laetare

“ലെത്താരെ” എന്നാണല്ലോ തപസ്സുകാലത്തിലെ നാലാം ഞായര്‍ വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. ലെത്താരെ എന്ന വാക്കിന്റെ അര്‍ത്ഥം “ആനന്ദിക്കുക” എന്നാണ്. ഇന്നത്തെ ദിവ്യബലിയുടെ പ്രവേശനപ്രഭണിതത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യ വാക്കില്‍നിന്നും ആണ് ഇത് ഉത്ഭവിക്കുന്നത്. ഏശയ്യ പ്രവാചകന്റെ പുസ്തകത്തിലെ 66, 10/11 വാചകങ്ങളാണ് ഇന്നത്തെ പ്രഭണിതം. ഇന്നത്തെ വായനകളും ഇതേ സന്ദേശം തന്നെയാണ് നമുക്ക്‌ തരുന്നത്. ഒന്നാം വായനയില്‍ ജോഷ്വയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തില്‍ ഇസ്രായേല്‍ ജനം കാനാന്‍ദേശത്ത്‌ എത്തുന്നതാണ് നാം വായിക്കുന്നത്. നാല്‍പത്‌ വര്‍ഷങ്ങളുടെ അലച്ചിലിന് ശേഷം അവര്‍ക്ക് അവരുടെ ലക് ഷ്യ സ്ഥാനത്ത് എത്താനാകുന്നു. ഇനിമുതല്‍ അവര്‍ക്ക്‌ സാധാരണ ജീവിതം നയിക്കാം. ഇന്നുമുതല്‍ അവര്‍ക്ക്‌ മന്ന ലഭിക്കില്ല. അതിനര്‍ത്ഥം ഇനി ഭക്ഷിക്കണമെങ്കില്‍ അധ്വാനിക്കണം. പക്ഷെ മരുഭൂമിയിലെ കഷ്ടതകള്‍ പരിഗണിച്ചാല്‍ അത് നിസ്സാരം. മാത്രവുമല്ല “പാലും തേനും ഒഴുകുന്ന” കാനാന്‍ദേശമാണ് അവരുടെ ഇനിമുതലുള്ള വാസസ്ഥലം. മന്നയുടെ രൂപത്തില്‍ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യം അവര്‍ക്ക്‌ ലഭ്യമല്ലെങ്കിലും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സ്നേഹവും കരുണയും കാനാന്‍ദേശത്തിലൂടെ അവര്‍ ഇനി അറിയും. അതേ... സന്തോഷത്തിന്റെ സന്ദേശമാണ് ഒന്നാം വായന. ഒപ്പം ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സ്നേഹ കാരുണ്യത്തിന്റെ സാമീപ്യവും... more...

Sermon Thoughts - 4th Sunday in the Lent - C– "Laetare Jerusalem"

The 4th Sunday in the Lent is well known as the “laetare” Sunday. This comes from the beginning (incipit) of the latin “introitus” of the mass, “Laetare O Jerusalem”, which means “rejoice o Jerusalem” - from the last chapter of the Prophet Isaiah. There (Is 66, 10-11) we read: “Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad because of her, all you who love her; Exult, exult with her, all you who were mourning over her! Oh, that you may suck fully of the milk of her comfort, that you may nurse with delight at her abundant breasts!” The readings of this Sunday give a similar message of joy. In the first reading from Joshua we hear that the people of Israel reach the once promised Land Canaan. They were 40 years on the way to this Land of their great Hope. Now they are in Jericho and can begin a normal life. read more...

തപസ്സുകാലം 3 -)o ഞായര്‍ – „Oculi“ (Ex 3, 1-8a.13-15; 1Cor 10,1-6.10-12; Lk 13,1-9)

“Oculi mei semper ad Dominum“ (Ps 25,15) ഇന്നത്തെ വായനകള്‍ ആദ്യ വായനയില്‍ തന്നെ കൂട്ടിവായിക്കാന്‍, മനസ്സിലാക്കാന്‍ ചിലര്‍ക്കെങ്കിലും പ്രയാസം തോന്നാം... അതുകൊണ്ട് ഇന്നത്തെ വിചിന്തനങ്ങ ള്‍ നമുക്ക് രണ്ടാം വായനയില്‍ നിന്നും ആരംഭിക്കാം. വി. പൌലോസ് അപ്പോസ്തലന്‍ കൊറിന്ത്യര്‍ക്കെഴുതിയ ഒന്നാം ലേഖനത്തിലെ വരികളില്‍ നാം യഹൂദരുടെ ചരിത്രത്തെ ചെറുതായി മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നു. മോശ അവര്‍ക്കായി മരുഭൂമിയില്‍ അത്ഭുതങ്ങള്‍ ചെയ്തു. ദൈവം അവര്‍ക്കായി ഭക്ഷണവും പാനീയവും നല്‍കി സംരക്ഷിച്ചു. എങ്കിലും അവരില്‍ പലരും (മോശ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ) വാഗ്ദത്തഭൂമി ദര്‍ശിച്ചില്ല...അവരില്‍ പലരും മരുഭൂമിയില്‍ തന്നെ മരണപ്പെട്ടു. ഈ ചിന്തയെ വിശദീകരിക്കുന്നതാണ് ഇന്നത്തെ സുവിശേഷഭാഗം. പാലസ്തീനായില്‍ സംഭവിച്ച രണ്ടു സംഭവങ്ങളെ യേശു അനുസ്മരിക്കുന്നു. ഒന്നാമത്തെ സംഭവം ചരിത്രപരമായി ചര്‍ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്ന ഒന്നാണ്. അത് സമാനമായ രണ്ട് വസ്തുതകളുടെ കൂട്ടിചേര്‍ക്കലായി കരുതുന്ന ചരിത്രകാരന്മാരും ഉണ്ട്. പിലാത്തോസിന്റെ കാലത്ത്‌ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ട സമരിയാക്കാരുടെയും, റോമന്‍ അധിനിവേശത്തെ എതിര്‍ത്ത് ചുങ്കം നല്‍കാന്‍ വിസമ്മതിച്ച് കൊലചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ഗലീലിയനായ യൂദാസിന്റെയും കൂട്ടരുടെയും സംഭവങ്ങളുമായി ചില സാമ്യങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നെന്നു ഈ വചനഭാഗം സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. more...
