Sermonthoughts – Holy Trinity
Our Universe is full of information. This information is transferred through many ways. Man use Gestures, languages, symbols, pictures, lights etc.
We too make many pictures and symbols for our daily communications.
In the parish atmosphere we have so many examples for that.
Just take an example: the occasion is the transfer of a young priest from one parish to other. Even though this priest tried to do his best, there may be divided opinions about him. He may be acceptable to many, human and friendly, but some may find it inappropriate to a priest.
We know the story of some blind friends, who wanted to know how the elephant look like. They had different opinions, as they tried to get a picture of the elephant from a special point of angle.
Such experiences are not rare in our life. This is because, we human being have a limited perception. If we cannot perceive some elements that are visible here on earth, how we can “understand “God, the Super-Natural Power?
„God“is today a mixture of several experiences, theories, Meditations, visions. These may have several historical – contextual – personal – spiritual dimensions. Some of them may “contradict” each other.
Even then we cannot just discard them.
Also in the spirituality and theology of Christianity there are several God-Images. Holy Trinity is the important God-Concept, of the Church throughout centuries.
This God Concept is much „conceptual“and above human mathematics and calculations. 1 + 1+ 1 make 3. That is known to children. This is but the calculation of the World; Church has but her own method. This may not be the same as the world.
This mathematical problem is still now a subject of dispute. Sadly we have to acknowledge that, this great God Concept of Unity itself was one among the Obstacle of the “unity” of the faithful. This is a big tragedy in the church history.
What is the meaning of much discussion? The question is not from me. But from many faithful, who see the issue seriously.
How near I come to God through this God concept? How much it works in my life as a Christian?
My personal sorrow is this. Even God could unite in to one. They are in the unity and peace. But we, humans cannot achieve this. We are separating from our brothers and sisters, from God, from Nature, and finally from ourselves.
Why?
I think the main issue is the Egoism. That is the basic problem of the World disorder, for terrorism, War and destructions, Poverty and severe diseases…
Yes, our Egoism is seen allover.
What is important for us today?
What does the Holy Trinity wants from us?
Is it separation and hatred?
Or humanity and love and peace?
Is it not a repeated call to work together with God in Hand in hand?
I do meditate this day as a call to be with God, to be with Human beings. A call to bring the people scattered in the name of God, together.
We will be able to experience our God then, in our families, in our Communities, in our Societies, in our Countries and in the World. Then we can proclaim it with no fear:
”I am with you till the end of the World!”
May this Feast be a feast of unity, not one of Hatred and division. Amen!
