Sermon thoughts – Mary, the Mother of God & New Year – 2014

For the New Year 2013 I wish all of you
a good and healthy time.

The New Year's Eve and the first day in the New Year are Celebrated around the world .
But the Catholics begin this year with the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God .
In our church, as we know, the new year begins not in January,
it starts right after the church calendar on 1 Sunday of Advent.
Nevertheless, Christianity also celebrates 1st January of each year, however, as this Marian feast - Mary as Mother of God. And we celebrate this on the 8 Day after the birth of Christ. So this day is a very special day for us.

Sermon thoughts – Holy Family– A – 2013

“The Catholic Church seems to be old-fashioned. She talks a lot about the Instutition family.” This opinion is sofar partially true.
The Church acknowledges a high priority for the family.
Because the family is blessed by God Community.

God created Adam and Eve and blessed them.
That was the beginning of this union.
We celebrate this holiday during the Christmas time- today, on Sunday after Christmas. One can explain this so: Even Jesus was born into a family and grew up with his father Joseph and his mother Mary.
Thus, the family enjoys a high reputation in the church.
That's why we say the family is a domestic church.
There there we pass on the faith to the next generation.

Sermon thoughts – 24 December – Christmas Vigil – A – LK 2, 1-14

First of all, let me wish you all a, “Prayerful and Merry Christmas”...

On this Christmas Day, on the day of Christ's birth, we hear a beautiful narration from Luke, the Evangelist. We can learn from these lines the great joy and deep peace of this event.

But in this hour of celebration, I ask myself:
How can I celebrate this festival with sense?
What is the key to its joy and peace?

Sermon thoughts – 4th Sunday of Advent – A- Mt 1, 18-24

Joseph was a righteous man - thus we call him.
That was his greatest appreciation .
Only one decision gave him this name.

But who is righteous? One who acts according to the law. Is n't so?
Now, Mary was “with child” before her marriage to Joseph.
In this case Joseph could say “NO” to Mary.
This was allowed and that could be the right decision.
This could be good for Joseph, then otherwise people will criticize him,
that he is against the laws of God / Israel.

Sermon thoughts- 3rd Sunday of Advent – A – Mt 11, 2-11

The Gospel of this sunday illustrates two types of witnessing.
We see John the baptist and Jesus witnessing each other.
In a way they are complimenting each other.

But it is natural to doubt on the witnessing style of John the baptist.
Because as the text reveals, it is not a direct “witnessing” at all.
“Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another ?”
This is the question of John.
Yes, it seems to be negative for the first impression. But going deeper to the text and connecting the reply of Jesus to John will tell us another story.

Sermon thoughts – 2nd Sunday of Advent – A – Mt 3, 1-12

What will be the greatest dream of a Preacher?
I think, it will be a good audience, who would listen to his words.
If it is so, John the Baptist should also be rejoicing – because the Gospel describes, there came a lot of people – from Jerusalem, all Judea, and the whole region around the Jordan - to listen to his preaching.
They all repented on their sins and received his baptism.

Even the Pharisees and Sadducees came to him.
This was something positive for John the baptist.
But we hear that John is criticizing them.
“You brood of vipers “ - John addressed them in that way.
