Sermon Thoughts - 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time C - Neh 8, 2-4a. 5-6.8-10 - Luke 1, 1-4. 4,14-21

The first reading today we heard was from the prophet Nehemiah. He writes about the Priest and Scribe Ezra and his particular and rare style of preaching. There are some specialties for this proclamation: Normally the Holy Scripture is read either in the temple or in the synagogues. Here, however, Ezra reads it outside the temple – at an open space, in front of the water gate (Shaar HaMayim), one of the thirteen gates of the main courtyard in Jerusalem Temple.
